Navigating Your Move: A Comprehensive 60-Day Moving Calendar

  • Mindy Heilman

Moving can be a daunting task, but with a structured plan, it becomes manageable and even exciting. I'm truly grateful for partnering with us to ensure a smooth selling process. Our detailed approach accounts for each step, complete with specific timelines to avoid last-minute surprises. Let’s dive into our 60-day moving calendar, designed to guide you through every phase of your move.

Week 1 (Days 1-7): Research & Bookings

Start by researching and contacting at least three moving companies for quotes, ensuring responses by Day 4. It's essential to make bookings by Day 7 to secure your preferred date. Simultaneously, reach out to cleaning services and consider storage options if needed. Begin decluttering your home by identifying items to donate or sell. Remember, donation pickups may take over 30 days, so plan accordingly. Gather moving supplies and create a detailed inventory of items by room to streamline packing and insurance processes.

Week 2 (Days 8-14): Confirmations & Address Changes

Confirm your moving company and cleaning services with deposits, and book storage if necessary. Schedule utility shut-offs for your current home and set-up for the new one. Submit a change of address form with the post office and notify banks, subscriptions, and other important contacts. Continue decluttering and purchase additional moving supplies if needed.

Week 3 (Days 15-21): Packing Non-Essentials & Scheduling

Begin packing non-essential items such as seasonal clothing and books. Label boxes by room and content for easy unpacking. Organize items you’ll need immediately in an “essentials” box. Schedule disassembly of large items and confirm dates for any necessary repairs or touch-ups.

Week 4 (Days 22-28): Utility Management & Packing Progress

Double-check utility shut-off and set-up dates. Continue packing non-essentials, focusing on less-used areas like guest rooms and storage. Pack most of the kitchen, leaving only essentials, and ensure fragile items are safely packed.

Week 5 (Days 29-35): Prepping for the Move

Confirm all details with your moving company and cleaning services. Pack remaining non-essential rooms and organize personal valuables. Disassemble large furniture and finalize your “moving essentials” box.

Week 6 (Days 36-42): Final Packing Push

Complete packing for the kitchen and living areas, leaving only daily essentials. Conduct a final walkthrough to identify any missed items, defrost the freezer, and prepare for trash or donation item removal.

Week 7 (Days 43-49): Double-Check & Final Arrangements

Re-confirm all moving details and pack final essentials. Disassemble any remaining furniture and conduct a thorough house cleaning. Ensure all utilities are disconnected and hand over spare keys.

Week 8 (Days 50-56): Moving Week

On moving day, ensure movers arrive on time and begin loading. Double-check all rooms and storage spaces for any remaining items. Load your “essentials” box last for easy access and ensure the house is cleaned before handing over the keys.

Week 9 (Days 57-60): Moving Into Your New Home

Unpack the essentials box first and set up basic living spaces. Confirm utility functionality and unpack boxes by room, prioritizing necessities. Conduct a quick clean of your new home and take inventory to ensure nothing was damaged or lost.
